Mokaila explains weather forecast

The Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism says places whose weather forecast reports are shown on Btv are those that have meteorological observing stations (synoptic stations).
Mr Kitso Mokaila said there are presently 16 synoptic stations around the country from Kasane to Good Hope.
The minister said to close data gaps, some other places are added depending on their locations on the map.
He, however, added that the places are chosen strategically so as not to clutter the map.
These may be both major and minor villages depending on their location, Mr Mokaila said.
He said whilst the importance of big villages is recognised and some are shown on the weather maps, it is also important to show smaller villages. He said it shows their recognition and alludes to the fact that the weather has no boundaries and affects everyone.
Mr Mokaila said Palapye, like other big villages and towns are not shown because they are situated near a synoptic station.
He added that in the case of Palapye being situated near Mahalapye its inclusion would result in the map being cluttered.
The MP for Palapye, Mr Moiseraele Goya, had asked the minister the criteria used to determine places whose weather forecast reports are shown on Btv, and why the weather forecast for big villages and prominent places such as Palapye are not shown.
