Plant due for refurbishment

GABORONE - The desalination plant installed at Ramotlabaki village in Kgatleng more than 10 years ago has now reached the end of its life, says the Assistant Minister of Local Government, Mr Lebonaamang Mokalake He said the plant is planned for refurbishing during District Development Plan Seven (DDP 7) and National Development Plan (NDP) 10.
Mr Mokalake said although the plant is operating, its lifespan would be extended by three to five years when the envisaged refurbishment is done.
He said the recent malfunction was due to the blockage of the membranes that clean the water before reaching the distribution tank resulting in yield reduction. The other malfunction was due to breakdown of the generator that powers the plant, adding that the membranes have since been cleaned and serviced and the generator has also been repaired.
Kgatleng East MP, Mr Isaac Mabiletsa, had asked the assistant minister whether the desalination plant equipment installed at Ramotlabaki more than 10 years ago has not reached the end of its life.
If so, when does the assistant minister plan to replace it and if not, whether the equipment operates satisfactorily and what lifespan does it still have before it can be boarded and replaced. He also asked the assistant minister to further explain the nature of its latest malfunctioning which was extensively reported over Botswana Television.
